Dear Tristan,
Happy seventh birthday, Tristan! We went to your tree at Dovestone Reservoir under Saddleworth Moor and had a picnic by the stream with angel cake.
Bodhi is growing quickly and enjoys all the things you liked at his age. Here’s a photo of Bodhi in the park on New Year’s Day just after his first birthday. Is that you peeping out of the cloud keeping an eye on your little brother? I think it is…
Mummy and Daddy and Grangie and all your friends send their love.
And so do I,
Grandjohn.

Dear Tristan,
Three years! How’s it going? Great, I’m sure. Lots has changed down here, not least being the arrival of your baby brother, Bodhi. I’m sure you gave him loads of big-brotherly advice before he left you. Thanks!
See you later! Lots of love,
Grandjohn.

Dear Tristan,
Has it really been two years since I saw you? It seems like only yesterday we were Morris dancing to my new folk CD, or going out in the snow to see the Rudolf I’d made from a fallen tree branch. I’m sorry you had to go away so soon, but Jesus tells me you like the room he got ready for you. He gave me some ideas from his book for a story I’ve written for you. You can read it here. I hope you like it. I don’t know when Jesus will invite me over, but I’ll be looking out for you when he does. All my love till then.
Grandjohn.

Dear Tristan…

One day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day.
